Research indicates that quality preschool programs improve school readiness and reduce grade retention (especially in high-risk populations), our Facility Quality Enhancement program assists the pre-schoolers of Georgetown County in three ways. First, grants are given to enable childcare providers to move to the next level of quality of care. Secondly, the Facility Quality Enhancement project offers to daycare centers training and technical assistance and developmentally appropriate educational materials, as well as healthcare education and screening. Thirdly, we target children who are most at-risk for delays, because their families are below the poverty line, by making available five partial scholarships per center especially for children of working parents.
